Many thanks to all my friends list for putting all the spoilers behind cut! I watched the episode this morning delightfully spoiler-free.
Random thoughts : I liked the episode. I liked Jenna, & I remembered her right away as being the Virgin for the alpha vampire. That didn't really interfere with anything, but it was just kind of interesting. She has these very big blue eyes and innocent look about her which did suit Jenna the newbie cop very well . I think she's in for a couple of episodes? At least? So it'll be interesting to see what happens.
I thought it was really interesting about the dark nabbing Dean from the Impala. Of course the whole bond they have is going to be some kind of big fuel for a storyline, so we'll see what happens with that. I thought the woman they had for the darkness was interesting at least, and much more powerful than Eve. Eve was really quite a disappointment to me at least.
I like the boys acknowledging that they needed to change, and that Dean actually listened to Sam about it. That was a discussion that so needed to be done. Sam looked almost as bad as he did at the end of the trials, but he was acting pretty BAMF despite that. The whole infection thing definitely reminded me of the Croatoan virus , but I hope they're doing something more with it. I also felt that the streaky black lines / veins reminded me of Leviathan.
Of course the big twist was the Mark of Cain on the baby.
I had a question though. Where was it that Sam is the one responsible for unleashing the darkness? Isn't it really Dean unleashed it by killing death and setting the mark free? Or at the very least it's both of them. I'm not quite sure how that ended up on Sam's tally list.
On the whole, I really like the episode. I thought it launched some new lines that will could be very interesting , and I'm definitely curious to see how it starts to play out. It wasn't as dynamic as say the season opening of season 10 with demon Dean, but sometimes you're better off not having a huge splashy thing that you can't sustain. So good work and I'll keep watching.

Date: 2015-10-08 02:45 pm (UTC)On your question - Killing Death did not set the Darkness free. Dean killed Death because Death wanted him to kill Sam and he was going to do it if Dean didn't.
What set the Darkness free was the spell that Sam was working on with Rowena, which took effect right at the moment that Death "died." So, as Dean said, Sam had the spell and Dean had the Mark to begin with so they were both responsible.
Good ep with potential!

Date: 2015-10-08 03:15 pm (UTC)I was really shocked to see the Mark on the baby and wonder if The Darkness can take on several forms at once.
I think both boys are equally responsible for this new mess, or at least they both feel responsible! If anyone is really to blame it could be a certain troublesome red-haired witch...
