There's a fan theory that years passed between Supernatural Season 15.19 (season finale, Inherit the Earth) and 15.20 (series finale, Carry On). Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) has said that in his mind Sam and Dean had five years between defeating Chuck and what occurs in Carry On.
